How to Change a Watch Battery
Watches are becoming more and more multifunctional and it knowing how to change a watch battery is becoming necessary. In addition to time, watches now also display temperature, height and direction. Due to all these additional functionalities, watches consume more battery power; this implies that one must change watch batteries at least once every year.
Make sure you know the type of battery required by your watch after checking the user manual. You will also need a flat-bed screwdriver and tweezers for changing the battery. Following is a step-by-step guide for changing a watch battery:
- Flip over the watch and put a soft cloth or towel beneath the crystal to prevent scratches from appearing on it. Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, remove the screws from the back cover. Occasionally, it becomes necessary to remove back covers by rotating them anti-clockwise. If so, use tweezers for this purpose.
- Remove the rubber-like gasket on the rim of the back cover carefully and keep it aside. Locate the battery, move the cover or the clip—which holds the battery—aside using tweezers. Before removing the battery, make a note of which sides of the battery face outward and inward to avoid confusion while replacing it.
- Remove the new battery from its case, wipe it, and place it just as the old battery had been placed.
- After replacing the battery, fix the gasket back carefully into its position. Make sure the gasket is carefully placed into the groove so that the other components do not get damaged. Replace the cover and screw accordingly.
