How to Check a Washing Machine Drain Hose
what you'll need
- Wrench
- Washing machine
Checking your washing machine drain hose for leaks and cracks is a good idea if you wish to keep your washing machine working. It can take a long time to fix a washing machine, so maintaining the washing machine drain hose is the first step in keeping the machine running. Looking for flaws is not difficult, and can be easily managed in a few spare minutes.
Step 1: Run a Cycle
The best time to check your washing machine drain hose is during a washing cycle. You do not have to be cleaning clothes, although it can save money if you wash and maintain at the same time. While the water is draining from the washing machine, check the drain hose. Is it leaking, or are there signs of water on the floor? Run your hands along the pipe, and check for moisture.
Step 2: Remove the Hose
You can also take the hose off of the washing machine. Make sure that the water supply is turned off, and then use a wrench to disconnect the hose from the drain. Look for cracks along the surface of the hose before replacing and turning the water supply back on.
