How to Check a Washing Machine Water Level Switch
what you'll need
- Screwdriver
- Wrench
- Soap and Water
- Sponge
Inspecting the water level switch on your washing machine is an important step in a regular maintenance routine. This switch can become full of gunge, meaning that it will not stop water from coming into the machine drum, meaning that you get spills and leaks. As a preventive measure, you will want to check the cleanness of your water level switch from time to time.
Step 1: Remove the Switch
The first thing to do is to remove the switch. Make sure that you turn off the electricity and water supplies at the main before you begin. The pressure switch will be at the top of the machine, under the lid. Take it off using your screwdriver, pulling with the wrench if necessary.
Step 2: Clean the Switch
The best way to clean the switch is by dipping it in some soapy water. Swish it around with your hand, or clean out the parts using a sponge or washing-up brush. Once the switch is clean, leave to dry on the side for an hour or so, and then check for cracks or breaks. Replace the switch in the washing machine, and turn back on your power and water.
