How to Childproof an Old Light Switch

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Light switch guard
  • Screw
  • Screwdriver

If you have children in your house then the old light switches must be kept out from the reach of your children. They do not know how to use it properly and thus may suffer a fatal shock due to exposed old light switches. The switches must be protected properly for the safety of your children and you must make sure that they cannot touch the bare switch. This can be done very easily and you can do it on your own

Step 1: Purchasing a Light Switch Guard

These are readily available in the market and they would not cost much. The light switch guards are generally made of plastic and they came in various colors. You can purchase one according to your need and choose a suitable color that matches the decoration of your room.

Step 2: Installation

The light switch guards are very easy to install and requires just few basic tools. Many light switch guards can be installed directly on the wall and they come with a sticker on the back. Thus they can be installed over the switch directly. For other light switch guards you have to drill a hole and then screw it on the wall.
