A ceramic cooktop is widely preferred in many modern homes, because of its sleek appeal and ease of cleaning. Cleaning ceramic cooktops requires some extra care and the right cleaning materials. Removing stains promptly, regular cleaning, and following some cleaning tips will make your cooktop last longer.
Step 1: Wipe the Cooktop Daily
Before you use it for the very first time, read the cooktop user manual. Wipe your unused cooktop clean with a recommended ceramic cooktop cleaner. Cerama Bryte is a leading cooktop cleaning brand that is recommended by most cooktop manufacturers. To clean the cooktop surface, apply the recommended amount of cooktop cleaner onto the surface and rub dry with a soft washcloth or paper towel. Wipe again to remove any residue. Reserve the washcloth for use only on the cooktop. If you use the same cloth for general cleaning, it may pick up other materials and dirt that can cause scratches on the cooktop. Never use scouring pads or general purpose cleaners on your ceramic cooktop. Wipe the cooking surface daily with the cooktop cleaner.
Step 2: Cleaning a Minor Spill or Stain
Small spills or stains can be removed easily if you clean the cooktop surface promptly. Wait till the cooktop has cooled down before you clean it. Wipe the spill with a clean paper towel. Apply the cooktop cleaner on the cooktop surface and rub briskly using a paper towel. Wipe off the excess residue with a dry paper towel. Avoid using water when cleaning, as this may contribute to stains. Use of metal cookware on high heat can also result in stains on the cooktop surface. You can avoid most spills and stains by using cookware of the right size, and making sure the cookware is clean and dry before using it.
Step 3: Cleaning Burnt Residue
Spills and overflow during cooking can result in burnt food residue on the cooktop surface. It is important to remember that melted plastic, foods with high sugar content, tomato-based sauces and milk are especially risky if spilt or burnt on the cooktop, and must be removed as soon as the spill happens, even if the cooktop is hot. For this purpose, wear your oven mitts and wipe off as much as you can, using a soft washcloth. Once the cooktop has cooled down, apply the cooktop cleaner on the affected area. Hold a razor scraper over the affected area, at a 45-degree angle, and scrape off the residue very gently. In case the food is stuck and does not come off, try to soften the residue by placing a wet paper towel on it for 30 to 45 minutes. Use the razor scraper again to try and get the residue off. Apply cooktop cleaner and wipe briskly with a soft washcloth or paper towel. Repeat if necessary. Remove excess residue with a dry paper towel. Do not use the affected area before the entire residue has been removed, or it may damage the cooktop permanently.
