How to Clean a Digital Pocket Scale
what you'll need
- Digital pocket scale
- Cloth
- Pipe cleaner
- Pin
- Magnifying glass
If you have a digital pocket scale, then you may need to clean it from time to time in order to make sure that it still operates effectively. Unlike an ordinary scale, which can be wiped over with a wet cloth, you have to handle the digital pocket scale very delicately, and be careful not to damage it too much by removing the dirt from it with a heavy hand. Getting the digital pocket scale clean is not too difficult once you understand how to do it, but you should be sure that you understand the instructions before you proceed.
Step 1 - Remove Loose Dirt
Remove all of the excess dirt on the surface of the scale. You should remember not to place too much pressure upon the scale while you are cleaning, as this can damage the weighing surface. Give the top and sides of the digital pocket scale a good clean with a dry cloth, removing as much dirt as possible from the edges. Blow air against the surface of the scales, and try to ensure that the loose flakes you have just cleaned off do not become stuck on the sides of the digital pocket scale. You may also find that you wish to use some electrical cleaning powder, a form of dry soap which is suitable for use on electrical devices.
Step 2 - Cleaning the Sides
You can then begin to start cleaning off the sides of your digital scale. Clean the weighing mechanism using a pipe cleaner. Take the cleaner, and push it through the sides of the digital scale, making sure that you don't damage the weighing shelf. Just moving the pipe cleaner around between the 2 parts of the digital pocket scale should help to remove any dirt that has become trapped there. If you think that you need something smaller, try a dry piece of tissue paper, or a paper envelope. Any of these items should be good enough to help remove the problem dirt.
Step 3 - Clean off Long-Lasting Dirt
If you have had the digital scales for a while, you may find that some of the dirt cannot be simply removed with a cloth, but needs something to completely loosen stained-in dirt. As you cannot use any form of moist surface cleanser, if scrubbing with a dry cloth does not work, then you may wish to loosen the dirt using a pin. Small particles of dirt can be scratched from the surface of the scales, and you may find that using a magnifying glass will help you to see where the point of the pin is going. If you are unsure about using a pin on such a delicate area, try using a sewing needle, or even a slightly blunter machine needle, as these will both work just as well.
