How to Clean a Dishwasher Pump
A dishwasher is an important kitchen utility, especially for busy households or for those who do a lot of home entertainment. To maintain the performance of the dishwasher, the pump will need to be cleaned regularly as it will often become blocked up with food.
Step 1
Ensure that the dishwasher is turned off. It might be necessary to turn it off at the main switch on the wall.
Step 2
Remove the lower dish drawer, allowing easy access to the dishwasher pump and to make it easier to clean.
Step 3
If necessary, remove the lower spray arm, but only if it covers the pump housing unit. Most dishwashers only have an upper spray arm which will not need to be removed.
Step 4
Remove the pump housing unit and then take out the pump and disassemble it. Clean each of the pump part thoroughly in dishwasher detergent.
Step 5
Reassemble the pump and then put it back into the housing unit. If the spray arm was removed, this will need to be secured back into place. Then replace the lower dish drawer. Run an empty cycle to complete the cleaning process.
