How To Clean A Sisal Rug
A clean sisal rug is a strong and durable floor covering, as well as an environmentally-friendly interior decoration. However, a sisal rug does take some extra effort to maintain compared to other rugs.
Vacuum
Your first defense against a dirty rug is the vacuum. Sisal rugs should be vacuumed thoroughly, on both sides if possible, as well as the floor below the rug.
Cleaning Spills
Though sisal rugs react poorly to moisture, liquid can be used carefully to clean stains and spills. Blot up as much of the stain as possible, then use a bit of club soda or vinegar and water or soap and water to remove the rest of the stain. Follow that with a warm blast from a hairdryer or fan to dry the area.
Avoid Moisture
Even on a clean sisal rug, only a small amount of moisture can destroy the rug's integrity. For this reason, any liquid spills should be cleaned and dried as soon as possible. To avoid spills and unnecessary wear, a sisal rug should not be placed in high-traffic areas.
