How to Clean a Stainless Steel Blender

A stainless steel blender is a great tool to use in your kitchen, but you must make sure that you clean it properly so that you do not spread bacteria that could grow from leftover food.

The Blender Jar

The first thing you should clean is the blender jar, where the food has been prepared. Make sure that the jar is properly attached to the blender. Begin cleaning by filling the jar about ¾ full with hot water and add a small squirt of dish detergent, just enough to adequately clean the jar. Additionally, you could add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to remove stains and odors. The baking soda will also help you diminish food that will not otherwise come off.

After you have filled the blender jar with the liquid substance, cover the jar with the blender’s lid and activate the blender for 20-30 seconds, allowing it to run on high speed. After you have completed this, remove the jar and pour out the substance, making sure you repeat as necessary.

Once all the food is out of the blender jar, make sure you give it a good rinse by filling it ¾ of the way full with only hot water and mixing it 2-3 times.

After it is rinsed, you can dry the blender jar with a towel, or let it air dry upside down. If there is stainless steel on the blender jar, it is recommended that you dry it with a towel, and then use a stainless steel cleaner on the external parts that are stainless steel.

The Blade Assembly

Make sure to unplug the blender and remove the blender jar before cleaning the blade. This is important to avoid any accidents that could cause you or a family member injury.

Remove the blade assembly from the jar if possible. Rinse it under hot water and wipe it carefully with a washing rag. Dry it with a dishtowel or allow it to air dry, all the while being very careful not to cut yourself on the blade.

If the blade assembly is not removable, clean it by using a long brush and brush off any remaining food or residue. Make sure that both sides of the blade assembly are clean and allow it to air dry fully before storage.

The Blender Base

Double check to make sure that the blender is unplugged, then clean the base with a stainless steel cleaner. If you do not have a stainless steel cleaner, you could use a homemade solution of equal parts of vinegar and water. If you put the solution in a spray bottle, it will be easier to clean, as all you would have to do is spray the machine and wipe off the spray gently with a soft rag.

The Cord

If the cord of your blender has also become dirty, you can clean it off with a soft damp rag. Only do this if the blender is unplugged to avoid any chance of electrocution.

Cleaning your blender will help prevent bacteria from growing on your blender and will help maintain it.
