How to Clean a Wall that Has Wallpaper Adhesive On It

Removing wallpaper adhesive from a wall after removing the wallpaper itself can be a daunting task. Particularly, if you have  paste and paper residue stuck to the wall. If you will be painting the wall after removing the wallpaper, any residue left behind will give you a rough surface. So, be sure to remove all adhesive. The following steps can help you with your removal of the wallpaper paste.

Step 1 – Apply Soapy Water

Try removing the adhesive with warm soapy water and a sponge. Rub the wall briskly with the sponge, rinsing the sponge in the soap and water solution to rinse off residue glue that sticks to the sponge.

Step 2 – Apply Fabric Softener

Mix one part of warm water with 3 parts fabric softener in a spray bottle. Shake the spray bottle well, then spray the fabric softener solution onto the adhesive that remains on the wall. Allow the fabric softener solution to remain on the wall for 5 or 10 minutes. Use a plastic scraper and scrape off the loosened paste.

Step 3 – Rinse and Dry the Wall

Use a damp cloth and wipe off the wall. Then, dry it with a clean, dry cloth.
