How to Clean a Washing Machine Water Inlet Valve

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Toothbrush
  • Soap and water
  • Wrench
  • Pliers
  • Screwdriver

You can make sure that you get a better flow of water into your washing machine by cleaning out the water inlet valve. These little devices help to keep the water regulated as it flows through your washing machine, and you need to maintain them regularly in order to ensure a good supply of water.

Step 1 - Remove the Valve

You will need to make sure that all of your electrical and water supplies are turned off before you open the washing machine. You should then open the top panel on your machine, which will allow you access to the valve. Take the connections off of the valve using a pair of pliers, Unscrew the valve from its position.

Step 2 - Clean the Valve

Once you have removed the valve from its position, place it into a bowl of soapy water. Using a toothbrush, scrub the inside and outside of the valve until it is clean. You can leave the valve in water overnight if it is very dirty. Once it is cleaned, shake dry, and leave on your side, on a paper towel, until it is completely dry. Replace in your washing machine, and turn on the power and water.
