How to Clean Antique Punched Tin

Antique punched tin are highly valuable items  and cleaning it is a delicate task.

Step 1-Prepare

Wear work gloves to prevent injury from working on sharp pieces of tin.

Step 2-Clean the Tin 

Using a soft cloth, wipe of the dust on the tin panel. Use a wooden toothpick to remove any dirt and dust in the areas of the tin panel that the soft cloth cannot access.

Step 3-Check for Rust, Mold and Mildew.

Check for any rust, mold and mildew. If you find any, remove by using a fine steel wool moistened in cold water. Try wiping an area of the tin panel with the fine steel wool first and check if any damage is done on that part of the tin panel. If you fine no damage, proceed with care in cleaning the rest of the tin panel.

Step 4-Use a Mild Detergent to Remove Grime

With a mild detergent diluted in cold water, use a soft rag moistened with the solution and remove any stubborn grime or dirt. Make sure to rinse the antique punched tin with cold water to remove residue from the detergent.

Step 5-Dry

Dry the antique punched tin using a soft, dry cloth. Using a hair dryer will endure that the punched tin is completely dry and ready for the next and last step.

Step 5-Apply Car Wax

To protect your antiqued punch tin from moisture and grime, apply an adequate amount of car wax using a soft cloth. Rub in a circular motion.
