How to Clean Asian Silk Screen

by DoItYourself Staff

One of the best methods of printing onto a shirt or delicate fabric is through the use of a silk screen. These devices make it possible to create an accurate, professional quality image fairly easily. That said, proper cleaning is absolutely crucial to the longevity of your silk screen. This guide will show you a few different methods and strategies to clean your silk screen.

Degreaser

Water based ink is fairly easy to clean. Soap and water may be enough but if not, soak your silk screen in a normal kitchen degreaser for about fifteen minutes to half an hour before trying again with soap and water.

Pressure Wash

If you have the available resources, pressure washing a silk screen is one of the easiest methods of cleaning. Do the cleaning directly after use, before the ink on the screen hardens and it should not be too difficult. It’s easiest if you soak the silk screen in a degreaser as the previous method states, this ensures that all the ink will be loose and ready to fall off. There may be no need for further cleaning after you pressure wash, but if so, soap and water should work.
