How to Clean Chrome Trim

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Chrome cleaner
  • Masking tape
  • Soft cloths
  • Water
  • Bucket
  • Rubber gloves

Knowing how to clean chrome trim correctly will mean following a process to ensure that you achieve the desired result. By gathering the necessary materials and completing the correct steps, you can ensure that your chrome remains gleaming.

Step 1 – Examination

Inspect the chrome trim before undertaking any work. For heavy dirt build up, a metal cleaner may be necessary, while mineral deposits and light debris can be removed with an all purpose cleaner. Choose the best cleaner to use.

Step 2 – Protection

Depending on the type of cleaner being used, it may be necessary to protect the surrounding area with masking tape. This will help to prevent the cleaner seeping and causing discoloration.

Step 3 – Application

Wearing the rubber gloves, gather some of the cleaning solution onto a soft cloth and apply it to the chrome trim. Gently work it over the surface using a circular motion, making sure to avoid any overlap. Wipe it away using a clean cloth. If using a solution that can be diluted in water, wring the cloth before use so that it is not dripping wet. After application, rinse with clean water.
