How to Clean Clogged Spray Arm Jets

by DoItYourself Staff

Nowadays, dishwashing is hardly a chore thanks to modern household implements such as the automatic dishwasher. Before the advent of the automatic dishwasher, people had to bother with mixing the detergent and patiently applying the mixture with a sponge to effectively clean dishes. The first automatic dishwasher required dishes to be washed first before they were processed. However, modern dishwashers have powerful all-in-one features which simply require you to put the dishes into the machine.

Possible Causes of Clogging

However, even the most advanced dishwashers can still be clogged. In modern dishwashers, the parts known as spray arm jets usually get clogged, especially after long cleaning operations. In order to resolve this predicament, simply open your dishwasher and twirl the spray arm jets manually.

Checking for Accumulated Objects

If the spray arm jets rotate too slowly, or don’t rotate at all, check for objects hindering the free rotation of the device. An accumulation of objects on the spray arm jets can stop them from rotating.

Disassembling and Final Checks

Afterward, disassemble the lower spray arm and check the status of the water delivery hole. Lastly, check the spray tower, which consists of several rotating parts. Make sure no objects are stuck in the spray tower, then close up the dishwasher and try using it.
