How to Clean Computer Cooling Fans

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Can of Air
  • Screwdriver
  • A None Static Cloth or Brush
  • Hand-held Vacuum Cleaner

Computer cooling fans are an essential component of your PC or laptop as they regulate the temperature of the computer and help stop overheating from occurring. If mechanisms become too hot, they can easily damage the computer. Computer cooling fans circulate cool air around the different parts of a computer, but if they become clogged with debris and dust, the fans may not work properly and a fault may occur on the computer. Cleaning your cooling fans regularly is essential to maintain a healthy computer.

Step One - Purchase the Necessary Items

Cleaning computer cooling fans is inexpensive and all you need to purchase to complete the job is a can of air and a cloth or brush that will not create static when you are cleaning the computer. As static charges can damage the interior of computers, it is vital that a non-static cloth or brush is used. Such cleaning accessories are available from most computer outlets.

Step Two - Unplug Your Computer

Never attempt to clean or repair any part of a computer while it is still switched on. Prior to cleaning the computer cooling fans, turn the computer off and pull the plug out of the socket. Failing to do so may result in an electric shock.
