How to Clean Refrigerator Condenser Coils
Refrigerator condenser coils should be cleaned every six months. Aside from maintaining its efficiency, cleaning it will also help you save on electric bills and repairs. Before you begin your work, unplug the power cord from the wall source. Do not worry too much about your food going stale, it will only take you less than an hour to clean the coils and the refrigerator can maintain its temperature for two to three hours.
Locate the Coils
In older models, the condenser coils are mounted on the rear end. For newer ones, the coils can be found at the toe space area, or rear access panel. Carefully remove the cover panel at the rear end to reveal the coils. The kick plate will usually lift off, but you may need to remove screws.
Vacuum the Coil and Fan
Vacuum the accumulated dirt and dust. Be careful not to damage the coils and fan. You can also use the long-handled brush to thoroughly remove dust. Put back the cover panel and put the refrigerator back into place. Plug back in the power supply.
