How to Clean Suspended Ceiling Tiles

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Feather duster or static cleaning brush
  • Vacuum cleaner with hose attachment
  • Ladder

Cleaning suspended ceiling tiles can be accomplished using a feather duster or static brush. Cleaning a suspended ceiling is not a hard or difficult thing to do nor does it require any special training to do. Use a duster with an extension for high suspended ceiling tiles that you cannot easily reach. This will remove dust and other debris that accumulates on the ceiling tiles and keep your suspended ceiling looking clean and well maintained.

Purchase a feather duster or static cleaning brush to clean the suspended ceiling tile. A vacuum cleaner can also help to keep your ceiling clean. You should maintain a regular cleaning schedule for keeping dust build-up and spider webs from accumulating on the suspended ceiling tiles. There are not many tools other than those mentioned in this article that you need to keep your suspended ceiling tiles clean. A regular cleaning schedule and the same process that you use to dust and clean other areas of your home is all you need to clean suspended ceiling tiles in your home.

Step 1: Dust the Suspended Ceiling Tiles

Use a feather duster to reach the tiles in the suspended ceiling. A static cleaning tile will also work, using static electricity to attract dust and remove it from the ceiling. Either a feather duster or static cleaning brush is adequate to keep your ceiling clean and remove the dust and dirt on it.

Dust the ceiling periodically, no less than once a month to keep the dust and dirt from building up on the suspended ceiling tiles.

Step 2: Vacuum the Suspended Ceiling Tiles

Use a ladder if necessary to reach the tiles in a high suspended ceiling. Take a vacuum with a long attachment to vacuum away any spider webs and other dust that you are unable to remove using a feather duster or static cleaning brush. You can use a vacuum cleaner instead of a feather duster or static cleaning brush to clean the suspended ceiling tiles if you like. Using a feather duster or a static cleaning brush is easier since you will not have to carry a heavy vacuum cleaner up a ladder in order to reach the tiles of a higher suspended ceiling. Choose the equipment that makes the most sense for the suspended ceiling.

Step 3: Establish a Regular Cleaning Schedule

You should create a regular cleaning schedule for removing the dust and dirt from your suspended ceiling tiles. Depending on the height of the suspended ceiling tiles in your home, use the appropriate equipment necessary to perform this task safely. If the ceiling tiles are too high to reach safely with a ladder use an extension pole to gain access to the suspended ceiling tiles.

If you maintain a regular weekly or monthly cleaning schedule, cleaning your suspended ceiling tiles will not be a problem.
