How to Clear a Refrigerator Freezer Drain Tube
what you'll need
- Thin, stiff wire
- Warm water
- Baking soda
- Bleach
- Basting syringe
It does not need much time and labor to clear a refrigerator freezer drain tube. Refrigerator removes defrosted water to a drain pan under the evaporator coil through a plastic tube. But, sometimes the drain tube becomes clogged causing the storage of defrosted water in the freezer. This causes leakage of water from the freeze. This is the time when you need to check the freezer tube and clean it. You will need thin wire, basting syringe, bleach or baking soda for this.
Step 1- Unplug the Refrigerator
Turn off the power supply. Unplug the refrigerator.
Step 2 – Locate the Drain Tube
Generally the drain tube is located at the side or on the floor under the vegetable crisper.
Step 3 – Unclog the Tube
Insert a thin stiff wire into the drain tube. Take out the debris stored in the drain tube using it.
Step 4 – Wash the Tube
Prepare a mix of warm water and baking soda or warm water and bleach. Fill the basting syringe with the mixture. Insert its tip into the tube. Press the bulb causing a flow of the warm water mixture into the tube with sufficient speed. Repeat this a few times and make sure that the drain tube is clear.
