- Acrylic paint
- Paint roller
- Fine grit sandpaper
- Microfiber cloth
- Clear polyurethane
Coloring your ceramic tile kitchen counter gives your kitchen a look that is uniquely its own. The task is not that difficult but using the right tools can make the difference between a good and a bad job. The key is preparation and you must ensure that you have lots of it.
Step 1- Cleaning the Counter
Before coloring your counter, clean its surface of any dirt and grime that are on the surface. If the surface is not cleaned thoroughly, the paint will not stick very well. For the cleaner dissolve a 1/4 cup of ammonia in a gallon of water.
Step 2 – Choosing Your Paint
Choose a paint that will complement the design of your kitchen. Make sure that it is acrylic base since it dries fast and does not have harsh fumes. It is also easier to cleanup.
Step 3 – Sanding the Ceramic Tile
To take out the gloss of the ceramic tile, sand it with fine grit sandpaper. Remove the resulting dust and other loose particles with a microfiber cloth.
Step 4 – Applying the Paint
Apply your chosen paint color with a roller. Allow it to dry for around 30 minutes before you apply a second coating.
Step 5 – Sealing the Paint
Seal the paint by means of clear polyurethane. Apply a thin layer only and allow it to dry overnight. This coating is essential since it protects the acrylic paint.
