How to Connect a Digital Weight Scale to A Router
what you'll need
- Digital weight scale
- Router
- Batteries for weight scale
Weighing can become really easy and efficient if the digital weight scale is connected to a router. There are several weight scales in the market and the digital ones can now be connected to a router. You will then get it to be connected to your computer or printer. For instance, if you have a heavy duty digital weight scale such as the TOR REY L EQM 500 digital floor receiving scale, which has a capacity of 1000 lbs., this can be easily connected to your PC or printer using the the RS 232 serial port of the printer. Such mechanism will then allow you to log every weight received in the scale and save it in your PC’s hard drive and then later on print out reports of every weight measured by your scale. Here is how you can manage the connections by yourself with some do-it-yourself techniques.
Step 1 – Determine the Port of Your Digital Scale
Just like the example given above, most digital scales have ports or jacks where you can connect your router. Some jacks support a USB 2.0 cable router for easy installation of the device on your computer. The router will then be connected to your computer or printer or both. Some digital weight scales even comes with their own router wirings or cables and CD driver with software programs for easy installation in your computer.
Step 2 – Connect the Router to the Port of Your Digital Scale and Computer or Printer
Once you have located the port/jack and managed to have a router with a similar connector, then you may connect or plug in your router to your digital weight scale. Then connect the other end to your computer or printer. Make sure that your computer is turned on in order to determine if you have managed to make the correct connections as some software will also guide you in the process.
Step 3 – Configure Your Digital Weight Scales Settings
Using the installed program in your computer, configure the settings that you will want to see on your scale. For example, you prefer to measure in kilos rather than in pounds, then the number that will be indicated in the LCD screen of your digital weight scale will be that in kilos. Also, you can configure other settings included in the program, such as measuring body fat or BMI.
Step 4 – Set for Wifi and Bluetooth Connectivity
If for instance you have a digital weight scale that supports wifi or Bluetooth connectivity, then you will have to configure the network settings on your pc in order to connect your program to your Ipod or mobile phone. This will enhance your weighing experience and you will be able to measure accurately and track down those measurements anywhere you are in the house or at the office.
