How to Disassemble Hand Blenders
what you'll need
- White grease
- Screwdrivers
Hand blenders are indispensable tools in modern-day kitchens particularly with quick food preparation. This wonderful equipment is perfect in whipping potatoes, making puree fruits, whipped creams, egg whites, mayonnaise and milk. However, in order to maintain your equipment, you may need to resort to disassembling it for cleaning purposes. It actually depends on the manufacturer and the kind of unit for the hand blender as to the tools and materials you need to disassemble the blender.
Step 1 – Turn the Blender Off
It is standard procedure that before you proceed to any disassembling task, you need to make sure that you have turned the switch off and carefully unplugged the unit from the electric outlet.
Step 2 - Applying Lubrication for Removal of Parts
Most blenders have detachable parts that needed to be disassembled in order to reach the part that needes cleaning. In the case of hand blenders, you do not need to go through the tedious part of reaching for deep surfaces inside the equipment. You only need to lubricate some parts of the hand blender in order to make it easier to remove and detach. You may use white grease to soften certain surfaces, especially the ones that are hard to remove.
Step 3 – Detaching the Shaft from the Motor Body
It is imperative to detach the shaft from the motor body of the hand-held blender in order to ensure your safety against accidents or getting electrocuted. Carefully press the release button you find in between the shaft and the motor body. As soon as you hear and feel that the two pieces click, you may pull the shaft away from the main body of the blender.
In some hand blender models, there are certain features that are more elaborately manufactured. For hand blender units which have base housing, use a screwdriver to loosen the unit and remove it from the base housing.
Step 4 – Disassembling the Attached Blade from the Shaft
After the shaft has been carefully removed from the motor body or base housing, detach the blade from the shaft by turning the blade in a reversed motion as when you have attached it when you assembled the product. Blades or discs which are securely and properly assembled into the hand blender shaft must be loosened using grease or oil. When the materials are soft enough to remove, detach them with care, since they have sharp edges.
Step 5 – Proper Cleaning or Storage
Disassembling your hand blender is necessary if you want to clean it from stains and other tainting materials. You may also consider putting it away for storage or security purposes. Find a neat and clean place where you can store your hand blender. Make sure that it is not moist since that usually triggers oxidation, which may cause rusting on the blade or whipping disc of your blender.
