How to Drill into Acrylic Sheet
what you'll need

- Drill with bits designed for plastics
- Self-locking pliers
- Countersink bit
- Spray bottle
Drilling an acrylic sheet needs to be done carefully or the sheet will crack. There are some precautions which you need to take to get a perfect hole. Here's how you do it.
Step 1 – Place the Sheet
Lay down 3/8-inch thick plywood on a flat surface and place down the acrylic sheet over this plywood. Put on the safety glasses.
Step 2 – Place the Wood Plank
Place a 1/4 inch plank of wood along the sheet and use a pair of self locking pliers to secure the plank to the sheet’s top.
Step 3 – Drill the Hole
Secure the drill bit to the drill motor’s chuck. Align the drill bit’s tip with the location of the hole. Depress the drill motor’s trigger to start drilling.
Step 4 – Spray Water
Keep spraying water on the bit to keep the sheet and the bit cool. Drill the hole through the sheet.
Step 5 – Remove the Plank
Remove the pliers and the wood plank and replace the drill bit by the countersink bit. Lightly tap the hole on both the sides using the countersink bit so as to remove the bur.
