by DoItYourself Staff

Having a dishwasher that does not drain properly can put a strain on the average user.  Now-a-days, a dishwasher is a common appliance in many homes around the country. Many families rely on their dishwasher to take one chore off their hands. Understanding how to fix a dishwasher that is not draining properly can provide you with additional time to spend with your family which is why you have one in the first place.

How to Fix a Dishwasher that is not Draining

  • Check the power supply - If the fuse is blew; the dishwasher will not operate as well as drain.
  • Make sure the dishwasher has finish a full cycle - Stopping the dishwasher mid cycle can cause it not to drain.
  • Make sure the door is securely shut - If the door is coming off its hinges or not properly closing then it can cause problems with the draining process.
  • Remove food trapped in the drain - Check the bottom of the dishwasher. If there is any food that is stuck around the drain it could be obstructing the water from draining.
  • Check the hoses - Make sure the hoses are properly attached to the back of the dishwasher. If the hoses have become loose it can cause the dishwasher to stop draining all together.
