Twitter is one of the most popular social networking sites that offer micro-blogging services for free. As a user, you can send short text based messages to your subscribers, more commonly referred to as followers. When you use this online social networking tool, one of your primary goals is to gain followers. The more followers you have, the more popular you become. So, here are some easy steps to boost the number of people following you on Twitter.

Step 1 – Let Other Twitter Users Get to Know You Better

Creating your user account is not enough. You need to write a couple of lines in the bio area that will tell other users who you are. You do not have to provide your full personal information, just make sure to put a clear description of yourself or the things that you do. Being too mysterious or, worse, puzzling in your bio can turn off other users from following you.

Step 2 – Reply to Other People’s Tweets

Basically, users of this social networking site post 140-character messages called tweets. If you want to gain more followers, make it a point to exchange conversation or tweets with your existing followers. Doing so will make you look friendly. Besides, everyone loves to be acknowledged by the person that they are following. When you want to talk back to your followers, all you have to do is make @ replies.  

Step 3 – Do not Make Excessive Twitter Replies

While talking back to your followers make you look sociable, you cannot make @ replies to each one of your followers. Not only would it be tedious if you have a few hundred followers, but responding to each of your followers’ posts will make your page look uninteresting because all that they will see are reply messages. Also, a new follower would not be able to understand your posts if all of them are merely responses to your existing followers.

Step 4 – Avoid Posting the Same Message More than Once

The limit of 140 characters per post is there for a reason. Twitter is for people who are on the go and have no time on useless posts. If you want to maintain other people’s interest in your page, make sure to post a topic only once. Making a post about your favorite burger joint once can be appetizing, but posting it for the tenth time will look like a cheap marketing trick. Online social media users hate marketing tricks.

Step 5 – Always be Yourself

If you want to make a good impression on your followers and gain more of them, always remember to be yourself. Being simple and sticking to the things that you really want to say, without intention to deceive other people, will be crucial in showing other people that you are a real person. In online social networking, people would want to communicate with a real person. Twitter, as a community, is full of people who want to converse with real people. So, always remember to sound as real as you can be and, sure enough, other people will follow you.
