How to Glue Cork

by DoItYourself Staff

Cork used in home decorating or craft projects can be attached to other surfaces including another piece of cork with glue. The best glue for this purpose is liquid cement, which will not be absorbed by cork which is a porous material. When the liquid cement dries, the cork remains secured to the other surface it is attached to.

Preparing Cork for Gluing

The pieces of cork that you want to glue to another piece of cork, wood, glass, or plastic, should have a clean surface with no dust or dirt imbedded in the cork. Use a slightly damp rag to clean the surface of the cork and let the surface dry before you glue it.

Applying Liquid Cement to Cork

Liquid cement glue produces fumes so use it in a well ventilated place when you glue your cork pieces. For bottle corks, spread a small thin layer of liquid cement onto one end of the cork before you stick it on to the second surface, such as a bulletin board. Avoid spreading the liquid cement too thickly onto the cork as this can ooze out the sides and damage the surface the cork is glued to. When you finish gluing your cork, close the liquid cement bottle. Liquid cement dries quickly, so your cork project can be used immediately once it is finished.
