How to Glue Teflon

by DoItYourself Staff

Polytetrafluoroethylene, or Teflon, is a non-stick plastic that is often used in cookware.  There is no way to glue Teflon but there are a couple of things that can be done to restore it.

Restoring Teflon Pots and Pans

If your Teflon pots and pans are scratched or peeling, a non-stick surface repair spray can be used. Non-stick surface repair spray does not disguise the damage but it will ensure that you get more use out of your cookware.

Teflon Coated Fabrics

Teflon Coated Fabrics come in various grades. They are made from fiberglass cloth and coated with Teflon. They can be used to patch surface damage but are not designed to be glued. Rather they are sealed with heat.

Teflon Tapes

Teflon tape is easy to apply and is heat resistant. It is durable and can be used in many applications. Teflon tape is available with acrylic backing or silicon backing.

  • Acrylic backed Teflon tape can be used at room temperature and is self adhesive. Acrylic backing provides a stronger bond than silicon backing.
  • Silicon backed Teflon tape must be applied to heated surfaces and is also self adhesive. Silicon backed Teflon tape is less tacky than acrylic backed Teflon tape and it tolerates a higher temperature.
