How to Grow Jasmine in a Container

by DoItYourself Staff

Jasmine grows well when planted directly in the ground, but it also makes a great plant to put into a pot or planter. There are a few things you can do to help it grow well, but jasmine is not a particularly picky plant. Use a rich, fertile soil, and give it plenty of sun and water, and everything else will take care of itself.

Using Humus for Soil

Jasmine, like other plants, does best when it is growing in a rich soil. When planting it in a container, use a humus soil that is dark and fluffy. If you don't want to mix your own soil, use potting soil. Before putting the plant in it, add 1/4 cup of bone meal and mix the soil well.

Light and Water

A jasmine plant grows best when it is exposed to 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight. Make sure that it has a suitable water supply, or is checked daily. With the roots in such fertile soil, light and water are the main considerations you will need to attend to. Don't drown the plant, but keep the soil moist, and make sure that the plant gets plenty of sunlight to help it grow lush and strong.
