Mini pendant lighting is often called the modern answer to the traditional large chandelier. If you are replacing an existing fixture, these lights are easy to install. When adding a new fixture, you should consult an electrician to ensure proper wiring. Here is how to correctly install a mini pendant light in your home:

How to Install a Mini Pendant Light

Step 1 – Turn off the power to the lighting fixture by either switching off the power at the circuit breaker or the fuse box supplying power to the room in question. Test the lights to ensure that the power is of before proceeding.

Step 2 – Determine at what height you want the pendant light to hang. Generally, if you are hanging it above a surface such as a sink or countertop, the recommended height is to hang it 28 to 34 inches between the bottom of the light and the surface. Use this as a general guide and see which height works for your particular taste before you begin installation.

Step 2 – Begin by attaching the mounting fixture to the existing electrical box.

Step 3 – Screw the pendant light’s bracket into the mounting fixture.

Step 4 – Take one of the ground wires and wrap it around the screw on the bracket. Take the other ground wire and twist it around the first one to secure the two wires firmly together. Attach a wire nut to securely join the two wires together.

Step 5 – Connect the remaining four wires, matching the white wire to white wire and the black wire to black wire. Now strip the ends of the wires and twist these wires all together. Use another wire nut to secure the wires in place. There should be no bare wires protruding above the wire nut when you are finished.

Step 6 – Move the wires up to the ceiling and secure the lighting fixture’s canopy into the ceiling, taking special care to conceal the wires. You may need to coil up some of the cord or chain in the ceiling housing if it is too long. The main goal is that you get the light hung at the desired height with no additional cord or chain hanging in sight.

Step 7 – Affix the proper light bulb for the fixture, noting the light’s wattage recommendations. Attach the light shade.

Step 8 – Switch the fuse box or circuit breaker back on and test your light.
