How to Hookup a Battery Powered Backup Sump Pump
A battery operated backup sump pump is something you should have ready to use before you need it. If this is your first time installing a backup sump pump, follow these steps for proper installation.
Choose the Right Size
Most battery operated kits include a 12 volt pump and battery casing, along with assorted hardware for installation. The deep cycle marine battery is not included. Check manufacturer’s capacity recommendations.
Pick the Right Location
Mount the battery sump pump as close to the primary pump as possible. Position the float switch at manufacturers recommended height using the brackets included with the kit.
Connections
Turn off the power; attach the battery sump pump discharge pipe to the primary pump. Mount the battery casing approximately 2 to 3 feet above the pit area. Draw all the cable connections to the battery casing according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Battery Connection
You will mount the battery charger as far as possible from the battery casing. Install the battery in the battery casing, attach the pump, float switch and battery charger.
Test
Once the connections are complete plug it into an approved outlet, turn the power back on and test.
