How to Install a DVI Dual Splitter

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Second monitor
  • DVI dual splitter
  • DVI interface

A DVI dual splitter  is a cable adaptor that you can use to enable dual monitors on your PC. This allows you to have dual monitors even if your computer’s graphics card only has one DVI port. The display on the monitor will, however, be duplicated rather than extended using this method but it can still come in very useful in a variety of circumstances. Installing a DVI dual splitter is a simple job only taking a few seconds and it does not require any third party software or additional drivers.

Step 1 – Attach the DVI Dual Splitter

Most modern computers and graphics cards have a DVI port. Attach the DVI dual splitter to this port and fasten any screws that might come with it to secure it safely to the back of the computer.

Step 2 – Connect the Monitors

Your two monitors should have a DVI cable to connect them to the computer. Instead of connecting the cables directly to the computer, simply connect them to the two DVI cables coming out from the dual splitter that you plugged into the computer. Turn on the computer and the displays and you should find that both displays now work, displaying the same image.
