Installing a Jenn Air cooktop can be accomplished with a few tools and basic know-how. The downdraft exhaust design and the functional and attractive glass cooktop allow for an aesthetically pleasing look to your kitchen whether you are remodeling or replacing an old unit.
Step 1: Choosing a Cooktop
You've decided that you wish to install a counter mounted cooktop. There are both gas and electric options. These instructions concentrate on the electric counter top cooktop. Measure the space that you wish to install the cooktop, adding 1/8 inch for the backguard and make sure that you have acceptable grounded power in the place you are going to install it. If you do not have the proper socket, contact a licensed electrician to run power to safely supply your new cooktop. Once you've measured your space then you can purchase your Jenn Air cooktop from a home improvement store that will work in the space you have allocated. Ensure that the cooktop that you choose can be properly accommodated with the power available. Keep in mind you'll have to purchase the proper plug in the event you are using a 220 version of the cooktop. The outlets for 220 come in many different versions.
Step 2: Prepare Area to Install Cooktop
Cooktops come in different depths, from 2 inches to 4-6 inches. Measure out the space necessary for the cooktop using the template that comes with the appliance. Drill guide holes in each corner then use the jigsaw or reciprocating saw to cut out the counter to hold the cooktop flush with the counter top. Make sure you also accommodate the downdraft ventilation system. It will lift between 8 and 10 inches from the surface of the counter when in use. The duct needs to be run all the way clear of the home through the floor or an outside wall. These systems recess into the counter top when not in use and pop up when they are needed. You may have to ensure you have the appropriate plug to connect to the end of the electrical cord to plug into your power outlet.
Step 3: Install Cooktop
Set the cooktop into its location and hook up the wires per manufacturer instructions. Install the backguard. Secure the griddle and burners using the provided screws. Under the rear flue cover there are screws that are for leveling the griddle to adjust how you wish to have the griddle slope. Remove the center screw that was placed in the cooktop to keep it secure during shipping.. Go under the cabinet and afix the bottom of the cooktop to the counter for additional security if the cooktop comes with this feature. There can be two or more screws to keep the cooktop in place. Put caulk around the edges of the cooktop for a clean finish, wipe up any excess caulk. Turn on the cooktop and make sure it heats.
