How to Install a Laundry Room Sink Soap Dispenser

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • A hole cutting drill bit
  • A drill
  • Sink soap dispenser made for sink installation

Installing a sink soap dispenser in your laundry room can add some much appreciated convenience in a room that will often be very basic. Also, if your laundry room sink is often used as a utility sink, the soap dispenser will add an element of cleanliness and organization by cutting down on soap scum and build up around the sink.

Step 1 - Find the Appropriately Sized Drill Bit

As most laundry room sinks are plastic and not factory made to receive a sink soap dispenser, you will be drilling the appropriately sized hole to fit whatever dispenser you buy. For instance, many sink soap dispenser’s fittings are 1 1/4 inch, so you would buy a 1 1/4 inch hole cutting drill bit.

Step 2 - Drill the Hole

Be careful that you have chosen exactly where you want your sink soap dispenser to be before drilling. Also, be sure to hold the drill steady, as many sinks have a textured or uneven top that will make the drill bit jump.

Step 3 - Install Your Sink Soap Dispenser

To install the most common type of sink soap dispenser, you will find you will simply need to push the threaded portion of your dispenser up through the hole you have drilled and screw the retaining nut that will have come with your dispenser onto the threads from the top of the sink. Make sure your dispenser nozzle is facing the direction you choose before tightening down the retaining nut.
