How to Install a Wall Mounted Range Hood

A wall-mounted range hood is a good device to have in your kitchen. It is installed right on top of your gas or electric range. This This will eliminate strong odors produced by your cooking also helps minimize smoke from filling up your kitchen. You can easily install a wall-mounted ranged hood using the materials listed below and following the instructions throughly.

Step 1 - Take Out Range Hood and Turn Off Electricity

Take out the range hood that you will be installing. You can purchase this at your local hardware or home improvement store. From this, remove the filter part as well as the light assembly. Before installing anything, make sure that you shut off the electricity from the main electrical source of your home.

Step 2 - Align the Range Hood and Make Marks

Make sure that your range hood is centered and aligned on the range. Using screws and your screwdriver, secure the range hood temporarily. Use a pencil to mark where the vents are on your wall. Make a mark as well for the hole where the electrical cable will go through.

Step 3 - Drill Holes

Use your screwdriver to remove the range hood that was temporarily placed on the wall. Take an extended drill bit and use it to drill holes on the corners of the outline made by the range hood. While drilling the holes, be sure that the area is free of any obstructions from the outside as well as the inside of the house or room. You will also need to drill a hole on the marks that you made which will be used for the electrical cable. Use a hand saw to cut the drywall. From outside of the house or the room, use a reciprocating saw to cut the area for the vent.

Step 4 - Install the Vent

Consult the manufacturer’s manual or user guide for the proper instructions on how to install your vent to the duct of your range hood. Before you screw the vent to the wall outside your house or room, apply come silicone caulking along the interior of the vent. Apply some silicone caulking along the exterior as well.

Step 5 - Connect Wires

Review the manufacturer’s manual again for instructions on how to install or connect the electrical wires. These should go through the range hood unit. You can ask for someone’s help to hold the range hood unit as you use screws and secure the range hood in place on the wall. Take the electrical wires and connect them to the range hood unit. Use wire nuts to secure the electrical wires in place. The light and filter can then be assembled onto the range hood. When everything is in place, you can switch the power source back on and test your wall-mounted range hood.
