Decorative wall paneling is a quick and easy way to renew the look in a room. You can install the paneling yourself. This simple home improvement job can be completed in a weekend.
Step 1 – Preparing the Paneling
Place your new panels into the room about two days before you begin the installation. This will allow them to become conditioned to the air and moisture levels in the room.
Step 2 – Sanding the Paneling
Use your sandpaper to smooth any rough or high spots on the panels. You will want your paneliing surface to be flat and even before you install it.
Step 3 – Determining the Stud Locations
Use your stud finder to determine the location of the studs in the room. Use a pencil to mark each location. You will secure the panels to the studs for more support.
Step 4 – Installing the Bracing
Secure your bracing onto the studs of the walls at six-inch intervals. Secure as many braces as possible for extra support.
Step 5 – Securing the Panles
Use finishing screws to secure the panels to the walls. Secure two panels to each of the studs with one on either side. Be sure to leave an 1/8 inch allowance space between your panels.
Step 6 – Finishing the Panels
Hide the panel joint seams with molding. Secure more molding along the top and the bottom of the decorative panels as well.
