How to Install Mirrors on Bathroom Wall Cabinet Doors

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Sandpaper
  • Caulking gun
  • Liquid nails
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips and Flathead)
  • Mirrors (cut to size)

If you are looking to spruce up your bathroom wall cabinet, adding mirrors will do just that. If you have a small bathroom, adding more mirrors to the room will make it seem larger. This a good project for any weekend warrior whether they are a novice or a professional. Measure the cabinet doors you want to add a mirror to and have your local building supply store cut them to size for you.

Step 1 – Remove Bathroom Wall Cabinet Doors

Decide which bathroom wall cabinet doors you want mirrors installed on. If you only have a one door cabinet in your bathroom, then your decision is made for you. A cabinet with two doors will probably look a little odd if one side was mirrored and the other wasn’t. If you have more than one wall cabinet, it is up to you as to how many mirrors you want installed. Once you have decided on the number of mirrors, then it is time to remove the bathroom wall cabinet doors using your Phillips or flathead screwdriver depending on what type screws were used during installation. Place the doors on a flat surface preferably waist high for easy access. Making your workspace more accessible helps you work smarter, not harder.

Step 2 – Prepare Bathroom Wall Cabinet Doors for Mirror Installation

Take your sandpaper and start rubbing the door panel that is inside the frame of the door. Do not use the sandpaper on any other part of the door. You only want to rough up the area that is going to be covered with the mirror. Sanding is necessary to allow the adhesive to penetrate into the door so the mirror will stay attached.  Wipe away any excess dust before continuing to step 3.

Step 3 – Attach the Mirror to the Wall Cabinet Doors

Take the caulking gun and insert the tube of liquid nails. Apply a generous amount of liquid nails to the cabinet door. You may also want to add liquid nails to the back of the mirror but be careful not to use too much. Take the mirror and gently place it on the door using a little pressure to assure it will stay attached. Be sure to center the mirror in the door panel while the adhesive is still wet. After the adhesive drys, you will not be able to make any changes. Once you have repeated this step on all the doors you decided to mirror, you will need to let them dry. Give the doors at least twenty-four hours for the adhesive to dry before reinstalling them.

Once you have reinstalled the bathroom wall cabinet doors you will be able to enjoy your handy work. Give this a try and you will be surprised how easy this project can be.
