How to Install Motorized Skylight Shades

Motorized skylight shades are ideal for skylights that are in high, hard-to-reach places. Installing them is a relatively simple process that you can complete in an our. Follow the simple steps below to install your own electronic skylight shades.

Step 1 - Plan

To begin, hold the shade up to the window to make sure that it fits. Use your pencil to make some marks on the window well where you want to put the brackets. This will give you some guidance later when you install them.

Step 2 - Screw in the Brackets

Each type of motorized skylight shade will be different. Most of them will allow you to screw in some brackets to the edges of the window well. Use your screwdriver or a screw gun to mount the brackets on the window well. 

Step 3 - Place the Shades

You should then be able to place the shades into the window well and attach them to the brackets. 

Step 4 - Mount the Battery Pack

If you have a battery-powered skylight shade, it will most likely come with a battery pack. You need to also screw the battery pack into the window well out of sunlight and then hook up the cord to the shade motor.
