How To Install Patio Door Blinds

Patio door blinds are a simple and cost-effective way to add a modern flair to any room. One of the most popular uses for these blinds is to dress patio deck doors, as they afford easy accessibility or complete privacy with just the pull of a drawstring. They’re easy to install too. All you have to do is follow these easy steps:

Step 1: Measuring

Measure the width of the patio doors, starting from the top of the doors to the floor. Be careful to take into account any rugs or carpeting at the bottom and make sure to leave enough room for the mounting hardware which will be installed above the doors. Then measure the width of the doors from side to side and be sure to take any window moldings and the door handle into account. You may want to add a few inches on each side in order to fully cover the glass doors for maximum privacy. Blinds that just barely cover the width of patio doors are also not as aesthetically pleasing.

Step 2: Bracket Installation

All blinds will come with pre-packaged mounting hardware, usually consisting of wall anchors, screws, brackets and various other pieces depending on the type of blinds you choose. Follow the instructions included for attaching the mounting hardware to your wall. Most sets call for preliminary drilling for the anchors to which you will most likely screw in the brackets, installing them into the wall. Depending on the width and material of the blinds there will be two side brackets at either end of the head rail from which the blinds will hang. A third middle bracket may also be required to distribute the weight of the blinds evenly so they don’t come crashing to the floor.

Step 3: Head Rail Installation

Once your brackets are in place, you will mount the head rail evenly into the brackets, making sure the placement is even with the measurements of the width of your patio doors.

Step 4: Completion

Most blinds come with a rod or vane attachment which will enable a twist control over opening and closing the blinds whereas a chain or drawstring attachment which can slide the blinds open from the patio doors or shut, covering them from end to end. There will also be some finishing parts included, such as valances or decorative bracket attachments that are designed to conceal the working parts of the head rail and/or the mounting brackets themselves. These are aesthetic pieces which are highly recommended to enhance the beauty of your new blinds, leaving a beautiful look to your patio doors.
