Recessed lights are a good way to light your kitchen without the awkwardness of many lamps. Recessed lights work especially well in a kitchen and look really great while keeping the kitchen neat and organized looking. Recessed lights will keep plenty of room in the kitchen to put kitchen necessities in it. If the recessed lights are the only lighting you will have in the kitchen, they will need to be 25 square foot of floor space apart. These days, there are many multiple styles of recessed lighting types you can purchase, varying from low voltage light bulbs and line voltage light bulbs. Installing recessed lights is not hard at all. If you have access from above such as an attic, it can be a very easy process. One possibility that can make this difficult is if there is already a ceiling box in the way. The simplest solution to this problem would have to be to use a cut-in can. They come pre-wired to their individual boxes for easy use and connection. It’s as simple as cutting a hole in your roof, attaching the wires to the correct junction box, and sliding the fixture as carefully as possible back into the roof until the mounting clips attach to the fixture snug as possible.

Step one – Cut an opening and wire the light

First turn off the power and find the ceiling joists with a stud finder that you can get at any local hardware store. Trace the outline of the fixture you are using on the ceiling. Put a tarp down under the outline so you can cleanly cut the outline out with your drywall saw for the recessed lights. Be careful not to cut the wires in the ceiling. The cables should be inserted into the fixture junction box and fastened with the cable clamp. Strip the wires to the length needed to splice them together with the twist on wire connectors. Connect the wires to their respective color: black to black, white to white, and ground to ground. Then, push them back into the box and close the cover.

Step two – Install the fixture housing

Rotate the fixture housing until the mounting tabs connect to the ceiling and the fixture is snug. Since the boxes are very light, there is no need to secure the box onto a joist. Even though it is not needed, some people still prefer to secure the box onto a joist. This is purely optional.

Step three – Install baffle and trim

When the house clips are tight, attach the baffle and the other trim into the fixture housing. The baffle can then be connected by springs. Put the bulb in, turn on the power, and enjoy the new lighting in your kitchen.
