How to Install Wall Anchors in Paneling

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Drill
  • Wall anchors
  • Screw
  • Hammer or rubber mallet
  • Screwdriver

If you have paneling on your walls and you want to hang a picture or something else, you should use wall anchors. These will provide the support that you need to hang the object without damaging the paneling. Follow the simple steps below to effectively install wall anchors and paneling.

Step 1 - Find the Spot

When installing a wall anchor into paneling, you need to put it where you can drill into the vertical framing behind the paneling. Find a piece of framing behind the wall by tapping on the panel until it sounds solid behind it.

Step 2 - Drill the Hole

Next, you will need to drill a hole in the wall. Use a drill bit that is the same size as the wall anchor that you are installing in the wall. Drill the hole slowly and carefully.

Step 3 - Press the Anchor In

After the you have made the hole, you can press the anchor into place. Tap it in with a hammer or rubber mallet.

Step 4 - Insert the Screw

Find a screw that fits into the anchor (one may be supplied), and screw it in with the drill or a screwdriver.
