Installing wood fence panels really isn't a hard task at all. Here are a few steps to help you get through the process smoothly.
Step 1 - Prepare
First, make sure that you have in place what needs to be there so that you can fix the wood panels. You need to make sure that the fence posts that you already have set up are sturdy. If not you may need to add extra concrete to the bottom to make sure that they stay upright and in place. You can do this by mixing the bag in a wheelbarrow as the directions say on it and then pouring into any opening that may have formed over time near the bottom of the fence post. Making sure that this part of the fence is intact is important as you do not want to continue building on a fence that is damaged or unstable. If you have just installed the posts then you will want to wait a few days before installing the panels so that the cement can set. You will also want to be sure that there are pieces of wood that go from post to post horizontally, as those will be used to attach the panels to.
Step 2 - Getting the Panels
The first thing that you want to do is match up the panels with the fence and posts that you already have in your yard. The best way to do this is to bring in a post when you are shopping for the wooden panels. You will need to measure the fence posts and fence already installed so that you know what size panels you should be getting as well as how many you will need.
Step 3 - Installing the Panels
This process is best done when you have a partner to help you out. Have the person hold up the panel evenly and use a level to make sure that it is on straight. One great idea that many professionals use is a stand that can be used under each panel while you are putting up. This ensures that the same amount of room is between the bottom of each panel and the ground and that they are even. While it can not be used by itself, it works well when used with the level for assurance. You will want to make sure that you are alternating the panels with the posts that are up already. The panels will be held up to the posts and fastened with a drill to the wood backing. Begin with one side of the fence and set the first panel in place so that you can tell where the others can go compared to it.
Step 4 - Stain
Stain or finish the wooden posts and fence if they are in an area that will be hit with rain or snow. This ensures that your wooden fence will stand longer and not rot or fall down.
The more people that help you, the easier this project will be.
