How to Iron Denim Jeans

by DoItYourself Staff

One of the household chores that many people will elect not to do is to iron denim jeans. Many people do not want to because they want their jeans to be soft and easy to put on. However, a crisp looking pair of denim jeans looks great when coupled with a freshly pressed shirt.

Lay the Jeans Flat

Before you start ironing it is important to lay the denim jeans flat on the ironing board one section at a time. Fold at the seams and do not iron over them.

Spray with Starch

To help with the ironing process, and create that stiffness in the jeans, spray starch onto the area you are about to iron.

Lay Iron on Jeans

Once you are ready to iron, lay the iron on the denim jeans and press firmly to flatten them out. Then, run the jeans up and down the pant leg until all the creases are out and you have a sharp seam.

Repeat Ironing

After one leg is completed, then move the jeans so that the other leg lays flat on the ironing board and repeat the process.

Hang After Ironing

Place a piece of wax paper in between the legs of the jeans and hang in closet. This will keep the legs straight without any wrinkles.
