How to Keep a Mini Fridge Clean and Mold-Free

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Work gloves or dish gloves
  • Liquid detergent
  • Dish rags
  • Clean soft cloths
  • Bucket of water
  • Large towel

Keeping a mini fridge clean is an easy task as long as you know what to do. Mini fridges are often used in dorm rooms, in small apartments and in condos, as well as in many Master Suites or work-out rooms in a home. Here are some tips on how to keep a mini fridge clean and mold free.

Step 1- Get Rid of Bad Food

Start by tossing away any old leftovers, fruits and veggies already gone bad. Mold tends to grow after a few days and can spread. Check bottles of dressings, pasta sauces and other condiments jars for mold growth.

Step 2- Protect Floor

Place a large towel at the foot of the mini fridge before beginning to clean. This will keep the kitchen floor or the area wherever the mini fridge is located free and clear of debris.

Step 3- Prepare Cleaning Solution

Squirt a small amount of liquid detergent into a bucket of warm water, dip dish rag in solution.

Step 4-Start Wiping

Wipe down all areas of the mini fridge with the soapy solution; push remaining food items aside or remove them.

Step 5- Be Sure to Dry

Use clean cloths to dry the wet areas inside of the mini fridge; if the areas remain wet, it can result in mold or damage areas of the mini fridge.

Step 6- Keeping the Temp Accurate

Keep the thermometer or control setting inside the mini fridge at a medium level. If it is too high, it will freeze up and if it is too low, items will spoil easily.

Keeping your mini fridge clean and mold-free is easy and with regular cleaning, it will remain perfect.
