by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Concrete
  • PVC liner
  • Trowels
  • Nails
  • Hammer
  • Caulking

If you have a tile shower in your bathroom, then you will need to install a PVC shower pan liner in order to keep the shower area waterproof. it is vital that you install the PVC shower pan liner correctly, in order to make it properly water resistant and durable. If you have a little home improvement experience, then you should be able to complete this project by following a few simple rules.

Step 1 - Preparation

In order to ensure that the PVC liner is laid correctly, you will need to sweep out the floor, removing any dirt or debris, and ensure that any nails or screws are flattened. Cut the liner so that a drain assembly can be fitted. Make sure that there are no holes in the liner before you install it.

Step 2 - Installation

Place the PVC liner in the shower area, and slide the drain assembly on top. Use your nails to fit the liner, and then add some caulking to the drain assembly, and the nail holes. Pour concrete on the top of the liner, and smooth out using the trowels, ensuring a slope to the drain. Leave to dry for 48 hours, and then lay your tiles over the top.
