If exposed plumbing or a sink base is a problem, try this quick fix and dress up the room with a bathroom sink skirt. It's easy, inexpensive and can add instant personalized charm to any bathroom.
What You Need:
- Tape measure
- Fabric
- Ribbon or other trim
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Velcro
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Hot iron
Step 1 - Measure
First, you'll need to measure the sink to ensure the skirt will fit properly. Measure, in inches, from the top of the sink to the floor, and the circumference of the 3 exposed outside edges of the sink (or rounded bowl). Be sure to add 4 inches to both the length and the width to accommodate for the seams on the finished skirt. Bring your measurements with you to the fabric store and have the appropriate amount of your chosen material cut accordingly. Buy ribbon or other trim, as well as Velcro, to match the finished width of the skirt.
Step 2 - Sewing
Pin the edges of the fabric evenly so that there is a 2-inch seam on each side. Sew the seams and sew or glue the ribbon or trim onto the top of the fabric. The top of the trim should be about 2 inches below the top seam of the fabric. Iron the seams to press them flat.
Step 3 - Glue
Using the hot glue gun, apply a thin, even strip of glue to the edges of the sink, then immediately apply one side of the Velcro strip. Repeat the process on the skirt fabric.
Attach the skirt to the sink with the Velcro and voila! Instant chic.
