How to Make a Blind Cleaning Tool
what you'll need
- Tongs
- Glue
- Sponge
- 3 Plastic hooks with suction cups
Blind cleaning can be a tedious and frustrating task. One way to make the process easier is to make your own blind cleaning tool.
Tongs Blind Cleaner
Step 1 – Clean the Tongs
One easy way to make a blind cleaning tool is to use a pair of tongs. Clean the tongs well so that the glue will adhere.
Step 2 – Cut the Sponge
Cut the sponge in half. Glue the sponge to the tongs. Let them dry for an hour before use.
Step 3 – Clean the Blind
Dampen the sponges. Put the sponge end of the tongs between the slats of the blinds and squeeze the tongs to capture the slat between them. Move down the length of the slat to clean it.
Shower Hooks Cleaner
If the blinds are really dirty, you can clean them in the shower or on an outside window.
Step 1 – Remove the Blinds
Raise the blind. Remove the track covers at the top of the blind. Remove the blind from the brackets.
Step 2 – Place the Hooks
Take 3 hooks and adhere them to the tiled wall above your bathtub or on an outside window. Place them so they are longer than the width of the blind with one in the center.
Step 3 – Clean the Blind
Hang the blind on the hooks. Open the blind fully. Use your shower head to spray down the blinds. If you don’t have a detachable shower head then use buckets of water. Outside use your garden hose with a sprayer. Avoid the tracks at the top of the blind. You can also wipe them down with a sponge if necessary. Rinse well and let them dry.
Step 4 – Rehang the Blind
Close the blind. Now slide the track back into the brackets and put the covers back on. Release the blind.
You have clean blinds and you did it with simple inexpensive things you had around the house.
