How to Make a Fabric Covered Photo Frame

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Wood photo frame
  • Fabric
  • Scissors
  • White glue
  • Foam craft brush
  • Small bowl
  • Damp wash cloth

You can display special photos in a unique and decorative way by making a fabric covered photo frame. Match the frame to any decor or theme by choosing the right fabric.

Step 1 - Prepare Frame

Choose a wood photo frame and remove the cardboard backing and glass. Clean the frame with soap and water and allow it to dry completely.

Step 2 - Prepare Fabric

Cut fabric into 1 to 2 inch wide strips, depending on the size of the frame.

Step 3 - Glue Fabric

Put white glue into a small bowl. Use a foam craft brush to apply a generous amount of white glue to a few inches on the back of the frame. Press and hold the end of fabric strip onto the glue. Pull fabric through the frame and wrap it around the frame, overlapping fabric as you go and adding glue as needed. Try not to bunch up fabric on corners.

Step 4 - Finish Up

While glue is still wet, press the glass into the back of frame to insure it fits after glue is dry. Use a damp wash cloth to wipe excess glue from the fabric and allow it to dry completely. Place your photo in the frame.
