A metal earring display stand can be a lovely addition to a bedroom. You can also have the satisfaction of making the stand yourself instead of buying a more expensive alternative from a jewelry store. You can even customize the basic design which in itself is very easy to make.
Step 1 - Starting
Begin by making a small loop on one end of the wire before straightening the rest of the wire. Do this by holding the loop in place and slowly pulling the remainder of the wire through the nylon jaw pliers.
Next, take the soup can (it should be a 10 ¾ ounce can). Hold the wire by the loop and bend it around the can, but just to the point where it extends halfway around the can to make a half circle.
Step 2 - Bending Wire
Take the bent chain nose pliers and hold the wire at the point of the half circle you've made. Now, bend the wire so it goes at 90 degrees upward from the half circle you’ve made. Next, bring the can back and slide it inside the half circle. The long straight piece of wire you now have will extend beyond the top of the can. Where it meets the top of the can, bend it 90 degrees so it’s parallel to the half circle at the bottom.
Bend this part of the wire around the can to make another half circle that faces the other way to your first half circle. To complete this part, make a small loop on the end of the wire, making sure it’s the same size as the loop at the other end.
Step 3 - Hangers
Now that you’ve made the frame for the metal earring display stand, you are now ready to make the hangers that will hold the earrings. Each hanger requires 22 gauge copper wire that’s cut into 2 1/2 inch lengths. Start buy cutting three lengths. You’ll need to make each one into a wrapped loop. Hold one of the completed loops over the top straight part of the frame, gripping just blow the straight length of wire. Wrap the loops around the wire until you’ve used it all and do this for all three pieces, keeping gaps between them.
In order to complete the metal earring display, finish by squeezing the small end of the 22 gauge wire flat. You’ll need to twist the wire until it’s completely flat using the bent chain nose pliers.
Step 4 - Alternatives
If you don’t want a round metal earring display stand, try making a square one. Exactly the same principles apply and if you can find a box that 2 ½ inches by 2 ½ inches by 4 inches tall, you can use that as a mold for forming your frame. If not, simply measure the distances. You can make the hangers in exactly the same fashion and follow all the same steps for the frame; the only thing that is different will be the shape.
