A cork board serves many functions. It can be for decoration, for messages and reminders, or a piece of artwork, so personalizing a cork board is an exciting way to make it stand out. Sports are many people’s favorite hobby or pastime, and many people will choose a sports theme for a rumpus room or study. A cork board will fit perfectly into either environment, so make it a special one.
Step 1 – Preparation Work
Find some suitable pictures that you can use for your sports themed cork board decorations. Having a look through sports magazines will turn up plenty cool pictures. You can do a multiple sports theme or stick to one particular sport, but whichever you choose, find the right pictures to suit your requirements.
Step 2 – Cutting Out
Cut out all the pictures you have found and stack them in plies of roughly accurate sizes. Smaller pictures will be useful as fill-ins, and larger pictures will make up the main collages around the cork board frame. Don’t make the pictures too large, otherwise you will loose part of the use of the cork board surface. On the other hand, you could opt for covering the whole cork board surface, including the frame. The choice is up to your own preference.
Step 3 – Sorting the Pictures
Once you have sorted out which way you intend to cover your cork board, you can begin by gluing pictures to the cork board or frame. There are many sports to choose from, and you might want to stick to individual sports or team sports. You can also choose sports which you play or just like to watch, or both. Baseball, football, basketball and golf are among the most popular sports, as well as tennis, hockey, and athletic sports.
Step 4 – Planning a Dry Run
Before you dig out the glue, make a dry run of the pictures and place them on the cork board so you get an idea of how they fit together. If you intend to cover every square inch of the surface and the frame, lay the pieces out so that they can be folded into the edges of the cork board against the edge of the surface.
Step 5 – Grab the Glue
Paste a liberal amount of glue onto the back of each cut out picture. Stick the picture in the designated place and press it firmly down, getting rid of any air bubbles. Glue the next picture and continue in the same fashion until you reach an edge where the frame steps up from the cork board. Make sure you press the picture into the edge with your nails, but do not tear it.
Step 6 – Final Surface
Once all the pictures have been glued into place and you have allowed them to dry, take the glue and brush the entire top surface of all the pictures. This will give the glue a protective top coat and seal the pictures in to stop the edges peeling up. You are now ready to use your sports themed cork board.
