Ceiling fan replacement blades can be installed by yourself nowadays. Thanks to constant use, ceiling fan blades get spoilt and stop working. One of the few common signs indicating that your ceiling fan blade needs to be replaced is an irritating creaking sound each time you switch on the fan. Does that mean that each time your fan creaks; you need to call an electrician? Absolutely not, by following the below mentioned simple steps, you can replace your ceiling fan blades yourself.

Steps Involved

Step 1: Find Identical Set of Blades

The first task is to look for identical set of blades. Contact the manufacturers and ask them where you can buy a similar set of blades. It is important to ensure that the new blade will gel with the existing ones in terms of size and weight. If you opt for a bigger size it will drain out the motor while a smaller size will not make the room airy.

Step 2: Switch Off the Power

Switch off the fan switch and ensure that the fan blades come to complete rest before commencing on the task.

Step 3: Remove Existing Blades

Use the screw driver to remove the existing blades

Step 4: Drilling to Make Holes

Take the new blades and check, if these have pre drilled holes on them. If not, place one blade on the fan holder and make marks with a marker for the holes to be made. Place all the blades on top of one another and use a driller to make holes. Making holes at one shot will ensure that all the blades are consistently drilled.

Step 5: Firming the Drilled Blades

Place the drilled blades on the blade holder and firm them to place using the new screws.

Step 6: Attaching Blades

Attach all the blades before switching on the fan.

Step 7: Checking the Balance

Check the revolving fan to ensure that all the new blades are balanced properly. If you notice , that the blades are slightly swayed towards a particular side then add the weights that came with the new set of blades on the lighter side to balance it out. Remember to switch the fan off before working on the blades.

Step 8: Shifting the Weights

It is difficult to strike the balance in one shot; the idea is to keep on shifting the weights, till you attain perfect balance. Once the desired balance is achieved, remove the support from the weights. Stick the weights to the fan with the help of an adhesive.

Step 9: Testing the Fan

Switch the fan on again and check for results. Let the fan revolve for around 5 minutes to conclude whether the fan blades are properly balanced or not.

Caution

If the fan blades creak, it might be for loose screws. Use a screw driver to tighten them in such scenarios.
